What is The Architecture Experience - Egypt?
The best approach to growing as an architect is to learn from experiencing and observing. The Architecture Experience aims to do just that – to take an existing project proposal and enhance its core architectural values by incorporating the numerous building technologies and innovations from ancient Egypt that are still used in construction today. The Experience will be a fifteen-day-long, curated educational tour for up to twenty participants across 4 cities in Egypt.
These visits will focus on observing historic architecture which is symbolic, yet functional, and draws a lot of its identity from the relationship between humans and nature, divinity, tradition, climatology and culture. The visits will foster a finer understanding of ancient architecture and how it blends within cities of today, both in terms of design and functionality. Working on a Capstone project will illustrate the influence of ancient building techniques in the context of existing sites.
Itinerary
In the 15 days, participants will get to work on their own Capstone project in sync with their subjects in college or work. These projects will be relevant for an urban landscape, with inspiration taken from places visited during this Experience.

Young architects could benefit exponentially from observing the significance of ancient and historic architecture and how that has translated into ideologies that can be applied in an urban context of cities today. Architects can study basic principles of architecture, such as symmetry, balance, proportion and geometric harmony, and also the intricacies of the finer aesthetic details. Architects can also observe how different cultures, religions, art, and socio-politics of a region have a direct impact on its architecture.

“
A building can only be understood by moving around and through it, and by experiencing the modulation, and feel the spaces one moves through - from outside into verandah, then rooms, passages, courtyards. Architecture cannot be totally explained but must be experienced."
